Therapy for Teens
Are you caught in a cycle of worry, unable to quiet your anxious thoughts?
Do you struggle with constant self-doubt?
Are you feeling alone or having trouble with friendships?
Are you struggling with your body image, eating too much or restricting?
Being a teen may be the hardest time of your life. There’s pressure to do well in school, maintain a social life, adhere to your parents’ expectations, and figure out who you are—you probably feel exhausted and in need of a non-judgmental space to sort through it all.
Maybe you’re sleeping more, zoning out on your phone, not turning in assignments on time, or struggling with friendships. It might be hard to focus, you may be feeling anxious a lot of the time or feel down and depressed. You may have questions about your sexuality or gender and are hoping to find a trusted professional to help you sort through it all. At Proactive Therapy, we have therapists who love working with teens and will create a safe place for you to feel understood and comfortable sharing anything that’s troubling you.
We will help you figure out what matters most to you and create a clear vision of what you want your life to look like. Our ultimate goal is for you to leave therapy feeling empowered, confident, and armed with the tools you need to create a life you love. We feel privileged in helping our teens on their journey to creating healthier relationships with themselves and others.
If You’re The Parent Of An Adolescent, You May Be Worried about Your Child
As the parent of a teenager, you may have noticed your child struggling. Whether they’ve stopped communicating with you, seem uninterested in their activities and relationships, or you suspect they’re engaging in risky behaviors, you’re probably wondering if what you’re seeing is normal teenage behavior and angst or something more serious. With anxiety and depression affecting teens at alarming rates, you want to make sure that they have optimal emotional support and coping tools to make healthy decisions and feel their best.
At Proactive Therapy, we specialize in therapy for teens. Seeing your teen struggle with anxiety, an eating disorder, depression, low self-esteem, depression, relationships, self injury or as a result of difficult life events, is one of the most challenging experiences a parent can face. Problems in these areas can begin to have a negative impact on your child’s school-work, friendships, confidence, overall well-being and family functioning. This is one of the most critical times to seek outside help, and also a time when engaging in therapy can be most transformative. Even if most things seem to be going well for your child, therapy can be especially beneficial at this age for teens to simply have a safe space to process with a non-judgmental professional outside of the family.
Your teen will receive individualized support that will equip them with lifelong skills for emotional regulation, stress management, healthy relationships and coping. We also specialize in eating disorders and can support your teen in recovery from an eating disorder as well as the whole family with Family Based Therapy, the gold standard for family therapy.
Working with teens and adolescents at Proactive Therapy is a collaborative process between the clinicians, teen, parents/guardians, and other healthcare professionals, if applicable. Our work is often focused on teaching emotion regulation and anxiety management skills, as well as increasing your child’s ability to navigate relationships in a healthy way. Exposure exercises, where teens begin to face their fears are crucial. Re-engaging in areas of life that anxiety or depression has led them to avoid is one of the most rewarding and effective parts of treatment.
We are available to meet via telehealth for video therapy appointments or for in person therapy appointments in our downtown office located at the corner of N. Clark and N. Madison in the Loop.
