Matt Baer (he/him) works with young adults and adults both individually and in a group setting. Matt earned his BA from Columbia College Chicago and his Master’s degree in clinical social work from Loyola University Chicago.
If you are struggling to manage your emotions and critical thoughts, struggling with feelings of depression, anxiety or the stress of navigating a difficult life change, Matt can work with you to create impactful change. Matt believes therapy can be used to explore any goal or life direction that matters to you. Matt will work with you on identifying your values and what you want to make your life about and will take an active role in the therapy space to help you make changes that matter.
Knowing that healing and growth can come from a strong and accepting therapeutic relationship, Matt creates a validating and warm space for clients to show up and authentically share any and all struggles. Matt works best with folks who are curious, and those seeking to explore, understand and discover solutions to the challenges they face. Coming from a background in the arts, Matt is always willing to get creative in sessions. Creativity can come in many forms and Matt will work with you to find the right pace and atmosphere that works best for you. Matt loves to laugh and often brings humor into his sessions when appropriate.
Matt has completed intensive training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)— an evidence based practice for healing from trauma. He incorporates EMDR with clients he works with on a longer term basis as well as with clients who are seeking short term trauma work in conjunction with therapy they may be doing with another provider.
Location: Matt sees clients in our office in downtown Chicago which is walking distance from both the Metra and the “El” for in-person therapy sessions. He sees clients for online therapy who are located anywhere in Illinois. Clients who are close to Chicago may choose in-person or online therapy and often visit our offices from surrounding areas including River North, Gold Coast, Old Town, Lincoln Park, Lake View, Logan Square, Wicker Park, Bucktown, Ravenswood, Andersonville, South Loop, West Loop, Oark Park, Evanston, Wilmette, Glenview, Highland Park, Northbrook, Northfield or Winnetka.
Outside of the therapy space, I split my time between the great outdoors and the great indoors :) I love finding a scenic spot to set up my hammock, downhill skiing and hiking. Inside, I'm an avid crafter, gamer, and sci-fi show binger.
